(1) ANGELINA JOLIE USES DIGITAL HEALTH (GENETICS) TO REDUCE BREAST CANCER RISK
In a New York Times op-ed entitled “My Medical Choice”, actress Angelina Jolie revealed that she had a double mastectomy to reduce her chances of getting breast cancer. “I carry a ‘faulty’ gene”, Jolie wrote. The BRCA1 gene she carries sharply increases the risk of developing breast cancer and ovarian cancer. Combined with her family history, Jolie’s risk was estimated at 87 percent, vs. an average of 65 percent for those with the gene. Following her procedures, Jolie’s risk is now estimated to be under 5%. The BRCA1 genetic test is recommended for those with a family history of breast cancer.

(3) BLUEPRINT HEALTH SUMMER PROGRAM APPLICATIONS OPEN
I am a mentor and supporter of Blueprint Health, the New York City-based digital health startup accelerator. Their next program starts on July 8 and they’re now accepting applications from digital health startups. Blueprint Health helps early stage healthcare companies get started by providing access to a community of mentors, customers, and capital. Their companies have raised over $10 million in seed capital from some of the most well-known and respected healthcare VCs and angels. Having personally seen the progress that companies have made through Blueprint—and been impressed by the caliber of the teams and the accelerator’s leadership—I encourage all early stage digital health entrepreneurs to apply. http://bit.ly/BlueprintHealth
