XPRIZE’s Nokia Sensing XCHALLENGE — Paul Sonnier Announcement to 17,000+ member Digital Health Group on LinkedIn

Dear Digital Health group members,

I’m delighted to announce that I am one of nine judges selected by XPRIZE for the Nokia Sensing XCHALLENGE.

The Nokia Sensing XCHALLENGE is a $2.25 million global competition to accelerate the availability of hardware sensors and software sensing technology that individuals use to access, understand, and improve their health and well-being. As we are seeing in many group discussions and articles posted, innovation in sensing is an important component to creating a means for appealing, usable, smarter digital health solutions. Given this pressing need, it’s an honor to be part of this Competition that will help catalyze innovation and adoption of digital health, globally.

According to Mark Winter, Senior Director, Nokia Sensing XCHALLENGE, “The Judging and Scientific Advisory Board members operate at the forefront of the mobile health revolution and fully understand the significance of biosensors and sensing to the future of personalized healthcare.” Henry Tirri, Chief Technology Officer and Executive Vice President, Nokia, also had this to say: “We have some of the top influencers and thought leaders across multiple industries serving as members of the Judging Panel and Scientific Advisory Board. Their collective minds will ultimately determine the winner of the competition based not only on a team’s objective performance, but also the impact and viability of their technology as determined by the Judging Panel. As such, it was critical to appoint judges and SAB members who have cross-functional backgrounds and relevant expertise beyond just the field of health technology.”

Registration for the first Nokia Sensing XCHALLENGE officially closed on April 5, 2013, with 33 teams from 8 countries competing for a prize purse that includes a $525,000 Grand Prize and up to five Distinguished Awards, each valued at $120,000. During the Qualifying Round, the next phase of the challenge, the Judging Panel will assess team submissions and narrow the field down to 10 finalists. The Final Round, which will take place in September 2013, will bring competitors and judges together, providing teams with the chance to present their sensing technology in a live setting. The winner of the first challenge will be announced at the conclusion of the Final Round judging phase in early October 2013.
