I sent the following announcement to 4,400+ Wireless Health LinkedIn Group Members on Dec 22, 2010:
Dear Wireless Health group members,
LinkedIn has enabled a new “Open Groups” feature, which enables “the world” to see and share our discussions.
I’d like to solicit your opinions on the potential value of this (e.g. educating a much wider audience as to the benefits of wireless health and mHealth) as well as the possible downside (e.g. stifling candid conversation). Perhaps there are other pros and cons in doing this, so to better inform my decision as to whether or not this change is worthwhile, I wanted to consult the group at large.
Background information from LinkedIn:
Open Groups enable the world to see and share your discussions. In either kind of LinkedIn group, you have full control over the quality of contributions and membership.

Group Admin Items:
– I created a Google Calendar for all ecosystem events. You can overlay/save the entire calendar to your existing Google calendar, RSVP to individual events, add events to your calendar, forward events to others, plus see who else is attending (great for networking and business development): http://tinyurl.com/wirelesshealthevents
– To continue increasing awareness of this burgeoning space and connecting global professional stakeholders with an interest in it, please feel free to extend group invites to your connections, whom you think will benefit from the network and knowledge sharing: http://www.linkedin.com/groups?gid=2181454
– Please add me as a connection on LinkedIn. This enables me to invite new members, thus further building the tribe (https://wirelesshealth.wordpress.com/2010/09/05/welcome-to-the-wireless-and-mobile-health-tribe/) and, I hope, catalyze our combined efforts insofar as accelerating the commercialization of wireless health and mHealth solutions: http://www.linkedin.com/in/psonnier
– You can follow me on Twitter. This is yet another valuable communication tool I recently began using: http://twitter.com/WirelessHealth1
I wish all of you happy holidays and a great new year! http://www.wirelesshealthstrategies.com/holiday.html
